Crown King Single Malt

Don’t say ‘Scotch’. Thumb Butte Single Malt is made with 100% malted barley from Great Britain. Presently we are opening one batch per year. This limited production allows for greater attention to the spirit that occupies each bottle. 2019 will see the results of a new strain of barley from northern England. It will also be the newest overtones produced by smoke from Arizona pecan wood. The special Kentucky air dried oak will impart a new rich flavor profile enhanced with infused Oloroso sherry. Enjoy this very special work of art.

Malted barley is created by adding water to the barley to germinate the seeds. Then the grain is heated to stop germination. The malting process releases enzymes that help convert the available starches to sugar. The malt is then cooked in the mash tun and transferred to the fermenter where yeast is added. After fermentation and distillation the whiskey is proofed down to about 125 proof and it goes on the oak to age.

We age our whiskey with oak previously used for our Bloody Basin Bourbon and then it’s finished with used Oloroso Sherry oak.

We are proud of our fourth batch of single malt here, from the lightly smoky nose to the delicate golden color, it is a real treat in the glass.

Why Crown King Single Malt?
Here in the Central Highlands of Arizona we like our single malt whiskey. We take it up or on the rocks or even in a cocktail. As Highlanders we sometimes feel a “quickening as we sip under a buttermilk sky”.

We want to live as though we are beneficiaries of the song “Don’t Fence Me In”. We have big skies and land, lots of land under starry skies above. We don’t want anyone telling us what to do and as Westerners we want plenty of room to do whatever we want to do.

We hope that our whiskey inspires you to dislike hobbles and fences and howl at the moon until you lose your senses. We have used the best single malt barley we can find and stored the whiskey in our distillery in oak barrels until our distiller releases it for your enjoyment.

Even if you don’t live in the West you will still feel like a Central Highlander. Lift a glass to life or to the wild blue yonder and we will be here to provide the spirit.
